Partnerships for success driven by world-class association management.

History

Bruce Rogers, Virtual, Inc.Bruce Rogers was leading a growing Boston-area high-tech PR firm – Rogers Communications – when, one day, he saw an opportunity. He observed that several of his association PR clients were having challenges managing other aspects of their operations, from finance to event management and website development.

Rogers realized that what these organizations needed was a partner who could take on all the responsibilities of growing and managing their operations, freeing them to focus their efforts and energies on pursuing their missions.

Determined to be that partner, Rogers began building out his firm’s capabilities to serve his clients’ broader operational needs. Within months, he was ready to kick off his new venture. He called it Virtual, Inc.

Virtual launched in 1999 with two clients. One of them, the Application Service Provider Industry Consortium, grew to 800 corporate members in 18 months and was a force in establishing a new software delivery model, today called Software-as-a-Service (Saas).

Virtual quickly established a global reputation as the go-to company for launching and managing technology-focused associations. The firm grew rapidly over the next decade, accumulating a portfolio of blue-chip association clients, including the ASP Industry Consortium, the PCI Security Standards Council, the NFC Forum, and more than 50 other groups. These clients have attracted the participation of such industry leaders as American Express, Apple, Google, MasterCard, Microsoft, NXP Semiconductors, Sony, and Visa, among many others.

Along the way, Virtual has earned dozens of awards for marketing and management program excellence, as well as being named twice to the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private US companies and The Boston Globe’s “Best Places to Work.”

In 2017, Virtual’s leadership identified a new opportunity to expand its business, drive new growth, and deliver more value to clients. They sought out the strategic resources of Striker Partners, a Philadelphia-based private investment firm, to support the effort. Striker introduced Virtual to other industry leaders in its investment portfolio: Drohan Management Group (DMG), an internationally recognized association management company providing strategic guidance and support to trade associations and professional societies; and Professional Credential Services (PCS), a specialized provider of examination development, administration, licensing and certification services. Together, they envisioned a new kind of professional services firm with a unique value proposition combining tech and standards experience, strategic counsel, and world-class execution.

The partnership became official in early 2018, bringing together 70 years of combined experience and complementary strengths to create one of the largest association management firms in the world, and launching a new era under the Virtual, Inc. umbrella brand.

With offices in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Nashville, this expanded company will deliver strategy, tech expertise, management, and credentialing services to a broad and diverse range of clients, establishing new benchmarks for industry-leading service and expertise.
