Favorite client story:

The time I traveled from Boston to SF to discuss expansion plans with an existing client, upon my arrival he suggested we grab oysters and a beer after a quick tour of the office. His CEO would join us at the oyster bar in an hour or so, to finalize and give the rubber stamp. I obliged and offered to cover the tab, and the oyster bar turned out to be one of the finest seafood restaurants in the city. Over dinner my client informs me that he’s leaving the company, but insists that his CEO is still on board and plans to see the project through. A couple hours later his CEO finally arrives with half a dozen team members in tow and my client graciously tells his CEO “this place has the best whiskey selection in town, Matt’s got the tab tonight, let’s get a menu!” Long story short, I was on the hook for dinner and several rounds of top shelf libations for the whole crew when his CEO turns to me and says “you’ve been the best partner we’ve ever had, but unfortunately our partnership has to end because the company was acquired last week”.

Hidden talent:

I’m an avid saltwater angler, and the owner of Scituate Rod Company. In my free time you’ll find me on the water fishing or building high-end custom rods for bluefin tuna, striped bass, and false albacore.

What I do for fun:

Summers on the water, winters in the mountains.

I can’t live without:

The ocean

Important life lesson:

When conditions are rough, try swimming in deeper water.
