Professional Services Firm Transforms How More than 20,000 Professionals and 3,000 Presenters Connect During the COVID-19 Global Pandemic
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – April 13, 2021 – Virtual, Inc., today successfully managed its 100th virtual event since the COVID-19 global pandemic. In March 2020 Virtual’s event and meetings services group pivoted to a 100% virtual delivery model for the company’s clients, which include associations, standards organizations, technology consortia, and advocacy groups, a challenge that—as Virtual’s name would suggest—it was more than prepared to handle.
With over a year of online event management under its belt, here is a look at the numbers:
- 18 events were delayed, rescheduled for a future year, or cancelled (three of which were to be held during that initial month of March 2020)
- Virtual has transitioned more than 100 face-to-face events to online formats, using 17 separate technology platforms along the way
- 10 new clients engaged with Virtual since March 2020 to create, plan, and execute online events
- In all, over the last year Virtual managed online events that have included:
- 20,163 Registrants
- 3,056 Presenters
- 75 Interactive Networking Sessions
- 3 Cooking Classes
- 3 Interactive Mixology Courses
- 2 Magic Shows
- 2 Chocolate/Wine Tastings
- 1 Visit from a Llama
“To a significant extent, our annual meeting defines our organization and certainly dictates our financial position, so we were incredibly nervous about migrating to an online platform,” said Jan Powers, PhD, RN, CCNS, CCRN, NE-BC, FCCM and President of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS). “Instead, Virtual helped us to reinvent the annual meeting, delivering an experience that exceeded our expectations and our financial projections, but actually brought us exposure to new audiences.”
Over the past five years, the Virtual events team has managed more than 600 events in 25 countries. After migrating more than 100 face-to-face events to online formats Virtual now is ready to deal with the realities of a hybrid world, where attendees and organizations will expect an integrated experience that blends the irreplaceable elements of face-to-face events with the conveniences that people have come to expect from virtual experiences.
“As we swiftly transitioned many of our clients to online events over the last year, the primary driver for Virtual was to ensure that each of our clients could continue the critical work of their organizations – whether providing nurses with essential education credits or advancing key standards to facilitate contactless payments,” said Margot Rodger, Vice President of Event and Meetings at Virtual, Inc. “Now that our clients have seen what can be done—for attendees, for presenters, for sponsors and exhibitors—our new mission is to create successful events that bring our clients the best of both worlds, a dynamic experience for those who choose participate in person or remotely. That’s our new frontier.”
