Who We Are Social Impact

We couldn’t imagine not being Deeply Involved

Being engaged with the community and helping those in need is not just something we do, it’s something we love to do. From the Jimmy Fund to Habitat for Humanity, Virtual wholeheartedly supports our communities.

The Jimmy Fund

The Jimmy Fund is a charity which raises money solely to support adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. The Fund was launched in 1948 with the help of the Variety Club of New England. The club organized a radio broadcast from the bedside of a young cancer patient, Einar Gustafson, dubbed “Jimmy” to protect his privacy as he was visited by members of the Boston Braves baseball team. Contributions poured in to buy Jimmy a television set so he could watch the Braves play.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity partners with people in your community, and all over the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families. Through our 2020 Strategic Plan, Habitat for Humanity will serve more people than ever before through decent and affordable housing.

Run For All Ages

Annual Run For All Ages 5k is a flat, fast, and scenic run around Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, MA. The race is hosted by the New England 65 plus Runners Club. The race benefits the Wakefield Educational Foundation and offers race amenities such as chip timing, mile markers, water stops, and after-race refreshments with a DJ and raffle prizes.

The Elf Program

The “Elf Program” started at Virtual a few years ago. The idea behind the Virtual Elf is quite simple. Every day between Thanksgiving and mid-December we randomly select one employee to be our resident Elf. Our Employee Experience team decorates their desk with a stuffed Elf, some confetti, and a $100 bill. All we ask is that the selected person donate the money to a charity of their choice. At the end of December we hold a staff meeting to share those stories. In previous years, our Elves have donated to Pine Street Inn, Ronald McDonald House, Boston Children’s Hospital, American Brain Tumor Association, and many others.

Employee Impact

In addition, Virtual sponsors community service events. If there is a walk, a drive, or something else, Virtual’s employees will be there. Virtual’s employee recognition program allows employees to donate to local organizations on behalf of Virtual.
