Arianna Castillo was one of our amazing marketing communications interns who shared some highlights and lessons learned during her time at Virtual. She is from Lima, Peru and is graduating (May 2023) from Boston University with a major in Public Relations and a minor in Innovation & Entrepreneurship. After graduation, Arianna is returning home before she begins her next journey.

Q: Please share a highlight from your internship experience this semester:

Arianna: One particular moment that stood out to me was my first day at the Wakefield office. I remember feeling quite anxious, but as soon as I began interacting with the virtual team, I felt at ease and self-assured. The warm reception I received from everyone was memorable, and I especially appreciated the thoughtful gesture of a letter from the CEO welcoming me to Virtual.

Another highlight of my time at Virtual was attending the Marketing Fun meetings. I enjoyed these morning meetings because they provided an opportunity to take a brief break from the work week and engage in exciting and fun conversations with the team. During one of the meetings, we shared our favorite coffee orders, which I found to be an enjoyable and genuine way to bond with the Virtual team.

Working at Virtual has fueled my desire to continue learning and growing as a marketing professional. It has been an excellent opportunity for me to gain hands-on experience and learn from experienced professionals in the industry.

Q: What advice would you give to future interns?

Arianna: My advice to those considering an internship with Virtual is to not be afraid to ask questions, even if they seem basic. As interns, we are all here to learn, and that’s what makes Virtual an awesome place to work. Everyone is always willing to lend a hand, so take advantage of the knowledge and expertise of your colleagues. Don’t be shy to seek help when you need it and make the most of your time here by learning as much as you can.

Q: What skills do you feel you were able to enhance?

Arianna: During my time at Virtual, I’ve had the opportunity to enhance my social media skills, particularly in creating engaging copy and graphics to communicate key messages to our client’s audience. I’ve developed my creative skills significantly. Working with different associations and clients has allowed me to approach tasks with a fresh perspective and generate innovative content that resonates across various audiences.

In addition, this internship has helped me to improve my communication skills. I’ve learned how to clearly and effectively articulate ideas, provide feedback, and collaborate effectively as part of the Virtual team.

Q: How will this experience support your future career goals?

Arianna: Working at Virtual has allowed me to grow personally and professionally. Specifically, I’ve deeply appreciated the importance of a positive and supportive environment. Working at Virtual has fueled my desire to continue learning and growing as a marketing professional. It has been an excellent opportunity for me to gain hands-on experience and learn from experienced professionals in the industry.
